Marble is a metamorphic rock resulting from the metamorphism of limestone, composed mostly of calcite. Marble is a popular choice in the bathroom for its classic, Romanesque appeal, but its softer than other natural stones and is for many not considered durable enough for kitchen counter applications.
Granite is a common type of igneous rock. Granites can vary in colour from pink to dark gray, or black depending on the chemical composition and minearology. Quartz and feldspar are its major components. Polished granite is a popular material for kitchen countertops due to its high durability and aesthetic qualities.
Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed of calcite, also containing various amounts of silica, clay, sand, coral and other impurities, which will affect its pattern and colour. Travertine is a banded, compact variety of limestone formed along streams, where evaporation of water resulted in calcite deposits.
